A lot is changing in the world of technology. Did you ever imagine that in your lifetime something like AI would come around and be involved in everything tech related? I mean we’ve seen the movies, rebellious robots, computers that talk.. cool and scary right?
As someone in the marketing realm, I find myself in the middle of a lot of conversations surrounding the pros and cons of AI technology. Can it help? Absolutely. Is it a replacement for all things marketing department? Not even close.
Say it with me: AI is a tool, not a marketing strategy.
Let me explain….
Sure, the AI app can write some copy for you, help with ideas, or even make a (not-so-subtle) graphic image, but it cannot replace the human. It will not know what strategy or actions will work best for a specific business or industry, and it DOES not make someone an experienced “marketer”. A successful marketing team will work together to understand the company, it’s goals, the competition and most importantly, the audience. You definitely need a human to implement actions, even if AI suggests them.
What are some other things these applications can help with? They can analyze reports, demographics, trends, etc. However, they do not have emotion, or at least not enough to understand pain points for clients. I read something once that said “reports can tell you how you’re doing and what consumers are doing, but it takes a real person to understand why”... and that stuck with me.
If you’re like most of the people in the field that I know, getting to know your brand is essential. Brand colors, logos, verbiage, and images are all very specific to each business, and unfortunately for those using C***GP* to create all content and graphics, AI cannot recognize those details.
Think about it, you can spot an AI generated ad as soon as it pops up on your screen, am I right? That is the difference. I try not to judge those using a quick voice text command to an AI app to create their latest promo image, because let’s be honest, we’ve all used it… but people notice. I do love and respect ads that are created by a real brand, a real person and marketing team.
Am I anti-AI for marketing? No! On the contrary, I think it definitely can add some value, I think we can co-exist and work as teams. The point of this article? Don’t make any haste decisions and get rid of your marketing team, keep that human-emotional element and let them work side by side.
Now, what about AI replacing developers? That’s a blog for another day….
